Node Types

Initially, there will be a Low-Priority Queue for new participants to prevent Sybil attacks by gradually increasing privileges as nodes prove reliability.

Beacon Nodes

The Beacon Node is the default node type in Exeos, responsible for forming the foundation of the decentralized overlay by continuously announcing its presence, and validating partial network activity. It is assigned a virtual space in the network, meaning each Beacon node occupies a position in the overlay's address and routing scheme.

It provides basic connectivity, a lightweight compute module and it can scale from low-power devices to robust servers.

Beacon Nodes also act as network entry points: they provide streamlined ways for new nodes to discover peers and integrate into routing tables without exposing sensitive data.

Portal Nodes

The Portal Node is a gateway for traffic exiting the Exeos network to the public Internet. It operates similarly to exit nodes in a traditional proxy or VPN networks, but with decentralized coordination and incentivization.

It shares bandwidth by securely relaying traffic from Exeos to external networks.

Myst Nodes

The Myst Node is a specialized node providing private routing (via a mixnet (opens in a new tab)), ensuring data is obfuscated through multiple hops before reaching its destination. Myst Nodes enhance the overall privacy by breaking linkability between inbound and outbound traffic. Part of Exeo's inner mixnet, they maintain strong anonymity properties that protects user identity and data flows from surveillance or correlation attacks.
